About Us

KAGU - Who We Are And What We Do

Kagu has had over two decades of experience in Japanese "home makings" (Kagu): Traditional Japanese furniture, ceramics, fabrics and clothing and other makings to go the sanctuaries we call home. Our Japanese antique pieces have been chosen because they are in good original condition. These pieces reflect the sophisticated and beautiful, artistic, traditional culture of one of Australia's biggest trading partners: Japan

The traditional Japanese antiques, clothing and fabrics featured on our website range in age from the late Edo, through the Meiji, Taisho, to the late Showa jidai (eras); 1820s to the 1960s.

Our j-kagu website is designed for Australian and New Zealand residents only. We do not ship furniture internationally. This is because our imported Japanese furniture and clothing pieces meet the strict Australian Quarantine Inspection Services (AQIS) standards. A word of advice, if you purchase Japanese wooden or wooden lacquered furniture from the USA, Europe or Japan over the Internet, your furniture will not have been fumigated to Australian AQIS standards. You risk confiscation by AQIS on importation of your wooden piece of furniture. Please see: www.daff.gov.au/aqis.

We carry Japanese made Silky Scissors that have received a Good Design Award in Japan. Silky Scissors are famous in Japan, beautifully designed and made.

Kagu is the Official Australian and New Zealand Distributor for Gakken Holdings Co., Ltd.a large and well respected Japanese company that specializes in educational book and magazine publishing and the design and manufacture of educational toys, beautiful origami, laser cut and pop-up greeting cards and quirky stationery (Gakken Sta:Ful).
